Online casino games are 'electronic lotteries' under the federal gambling monopoly, held by Österreichische Lotterien (win2day); licences from other EU countries do not count. Sports betting is not gambling under federal law and is licensed by the provinces. A reform notified in August 2026 opens online concessions and adds payment blocking, blacklists and network blocking; unlicensed operators must stop serving Austria by 1 January 2027 to qualify.
